Welcome to Timberscombe Cricket Club
Timberscombe Cricket Club in Somerset
Timberscombe Cricket Club has been in existance for over one hundred years - so the locals say! It is a friendly villlage club which currently plays in the third division of the West Somerset Cricket League. The league matches are played on Saturdays and the club also welcomes touring teams for afternoon matches on Sundays and on Tuesdays during the school holidays. Occasional evening matches are played often making use of the artificial wicket. Club members also arrange their own practice sessions using the purpose made cricket nets.

The wooden pavillion is typical for a village ground with ample changing room space for both teams and an area for the excellent teas to be prepared and served. A purpose made score hut is provided in the top corner of the ground. The club also boasts toilets and showers which are welcome before the teams ‘adjourn’ for drinks at the Lion Inn just round the corner in the centre of the village.

Timberscombe is a small exmoor village of approximately 250 people, but only 10 minutes drive from the tourist coastal resort of Minehead. The ground itself is situated just on the edge of the village near the river Avill. The field has a distinctive slope with the out field well maintained and ideal for facilitating some high scores. The club is fortunate to have a groundsman with many decades of experience who prepares excellent cricket wickets. If the weather has not been kind, the artificial wicket is always available to ensure that the game may go on!
The views from all aspects of the ground are truly rural in character, including that of a manor house in the direction of historic Dunster with its Castle and Yarn Market only two miles away. In the other direction a view of Dunkery Beacon, the highest peak in the Exmoor National Park, stands dramatically above the ground - when it cannot be seen clearly it is likely to be raining!
All these facets make Timberscombe Cricket Club a popular destination for touring teams -indeed some come back year after year - one side has just completed a 45th consecutive fixture having first toured at Timberscombe during 1961!
The club is always keen to welcome new touring sides to come and play, so if you are interested please contact us using the up to date information on this web-site.
